A Successful Camping Trip is in the Checklists
Camping is one of the most rewarding family activities. Oh, the kids will complain, at first, but if you camp in one of the national or state parks and hike a little to get a unique view of the scenery and participate together in outdoor activities they will get over it quickly. The memories will last forever. You can generate interest in an upcoming camping trip by getting everybody involved in the planning. Make checklists. Lots of checklists. And check them twice. When you are 30 miles from the nearest store you must do without anything that you did not bring along. Good planning can make your camping trip comfortable. Be sure your camping gear checklist includes things like 8 person tent depending on how many people are going and how long your stay.
Next to making sure that you have the right camping gear to keep everybody dry and warm, serving up good eats three times a day will make or break your outdoor adventure. You start off with an advantage because our DNA determines that everything cooked outdoors will taste better even when prepared exactly the same way as home. Maybe there is genetic memory from a time that having anything to eat at all is a good experience. You need heat to cook. The more BTU the better. Forget about campfire cooking. You only burn the food and yourself. Make sure there is a camping gas grill on your camping gear checklist, or something just like it. Most camping stoves are powered by propane or liquid fuel. Double the amount of fuel that you think you may need. Just to be sure.
One outdoor activity that is guaranteed to be a hit with the entire family is target shooting with a BB gun pistol or rifle. Preferably both. BB guns are not toys and require adult supervision and responsible handling. A camping trip is an excellent time to gain some practical experience with guns, and to teach the kids how to safely handle a real firearm. There are many makes and models of BB guns such as the crosman air rifle. You can get nearly exact replicas by weight and size of some famous hand guns. Set up a few paper targets or some soda cans to plink at and you can spend an entire enjoyable afternoon at the range.
