How to become a nurse
It is possible to take either a diploma or degree course to qualify as a nurse. Education is provided by Nursing Colleges in local hospital and community settings. Full time diploma courses last 3 1/2 years. Degree courses last 4 years. Those who have cleared 10+2 vocational ANM course (revised after 2001) from the school recognized by Indian Nursing Council. i. The minimum age for admission shall be 17 years and 35 years respectively. ii. The minimum educational requirements shall be the passing of: Higher Secondary school certificate Examination (12 years course), Senior School certificate Examination (10+2), pre degree Examination (10+2)
Entrance Selection test Selection of the candidates should be based on the merit of the entrance examination held by University or competent authority. Nursing Degree Vs Nursing Diploma: It is better to obtain a Nursing Degree than a Nursing Diploma because most of the overseas hospitals are giving more preference for a degree. Also the initial salary for degree is better than diploma. Above all in order to continue further education, a degree is more advantageous than a diploma.
