It is all too often the presentation design which can let down an otherwise potentially successful business presentation, and yet with a little planning and awareness of the common pitfalls this needn’t be the case. The trouble is that, when it comes to planning and designing an effective presentation for your business, it is easy to become too absorbed with the product or service to the detriment of the end user.
Any business presentation must be thoughtfully planned and delivered in such a way that it precisely matches the customer’s needs, in terms not only of the product capabilities itself, but also of their understanding, as well as their time.
A presentation which is poorly designed can often result in far too much talking, with too little hands on experience. Most clients will forget at least 90% of the words you speak during a business presentation. What will be remembered far more is the overall essence, the atmosphere, the delivery and the care and attention given to meeting with the clients’ needs and interests. It is important to consider, in presentation design, that it is not the design of the presentation in terms of artistic layout and content which is important but the design in terms of delivery.
Ask yourself whether your business presentation is too wordy, too visual, too detailed. A presentation is rarely the same thing as an educational tutorial, and such details should not be included unless necessary. Show, don’t tell, action, not words, and please, don’t resort to a PowerPoint theme.
