Wedding Favors that Create a Lasting Memory
The history of wedding favors goes way back. The reception table at today’s wedding usually holds lovely wedding favors that the guests can keep as a reminder of the couple and their special day. Wedding favors can range anywhere from toasting glass to something very personalized with the couple’s name. There is a difference between the bridal shower favors and the wedding favors although both will represent the wedding.
The reason for the guest of a wedding being presented with a gift is because centuries ago in areas like France and Italy, wedding guests were always given a small gift when they left that was called a Bonbonniere. The Bonbonniere was made of a kind of stone or crystal and inside were treats made of sugar. The tradition of wedding favors began in this way. The reason for the guest receiving the Bonbonniere was for luck. The couple gave these little gifts of luck hoping they would also find luck. The standard contents of the little box given to guests was five almonds that had been covered with sugar. The five almonds each carried a special meaning to the recipient; wealth, health, long life, fertility, and happiness. Today this is still used at weddings but the almonds are now coated with candy that looks like M&M’s. The special meaning of these gifts make a lovely addition to the celebration and they are not very costly. Ask a friend and or family member when you have questions about wedding favors.
Today there are really tons of unique ideas for wedding favors. The favors can be a variety of things like fresh teas with packets that have the date and names of the couple, favors with a wine theme, candles, candies with personalized wrappers, little specialty scented soaps, little frames that double as place sitting holders, and the list goes on.
