Wedding Insurance and do you need it?

Wedding Insurance has become increasingly popular in the UK and has been growing for 20 years now.

Even the most basic policy can ensure that cancellations, accidents and unexpected catastrophes do not spoil your wedding day.

Cancellation of a wedding usually means that the large deposits you have pre-paid are non refundable and therefore lost

The standard exclusions that apply to wedding insurance are listed as you may not think to query them not realising they were excluded

Am I covered if I decide not to get married?  This is the most often asked question to which the answer is No! There is no cover for “disinclination to get married” as the assumption is the bride and groom want to get married.

The rule of thumb is that cancellation is due to something beyond your control, such as a fire at the reception venue or a gas leak at the church.

It is important to think about protecting your wedding presents, rings etc as these could be subject to theft however there are security conditions such as not leaving them in an area where they could be easily stolen. Many couples opt to use a family treasure in the wedding that may have been used in past family weddings, if this is valuable make sure it is specially protected by checking with your insurers but obtain the answer in writing.

Public Liability is added to the policy and is usually standard, although this is very useful it is not often claimed against so insurers can add this at a very low fee.

Keeping copies of all sales receipts and copies of written contracts is very important as, in the event of a claim, you will need to produce them.
